about

After the successful release of our first album, all of us in XD 7 felt motivated to keep pushing our great band dynamic and start exploring different aspects of our musical inspirations. This EP, XD 7: GET! could be considered our take on rock music and our rock influences. We've taken a much more electronic approach to this recording than our first album: Max is exclusively playing electric bass rather than both upright and electric, Kevin is playing his Nord Electro instead of piano, Gabe is experimenting with more effects and playing his Telecaster, and Patrick plays EWI (Electronic Wind Instrument) on his composition "Last Resort" .

While this recording definitely has more of a rock feel than anything we have done thus far, it still has our signature XD 7 sound. "Last Resort" incorporates elements of video game soundtracks and J-rock. Check out Gabe's guitar solo on this one, you've probably never heard Gabe Schnider like this before! "Superhuman" mixes modern jazz fusion with the energy of action movie soundtracks. And in our take on Vanessa Carlton's "A Thousand Miles", we take elements of the original tune and add some XD 7 flair, including bringing in our good friend and Guardian of the Sky, Josh Gawel on trumpet! You can find some in studio video footage from the recording of this track, filmed by Ivan Rosenberg, by following this link: youtu.be/T7_oBx5jC9M

The end result is gritty and high energy, a new direction for XD 7 that is a truer reflection of our musical interests as a band while still connecting with our jazz roots. Enjoy! XD
